Goyo Benito, Real Madrid legend, dies at the age of 73

- Goyo Benito who was former Real Madrid star has died

- The 73-year-old spent 13 seasons at Real Madrid playing 422 games

- Benito also won six League titles with Los Blancos

Spanish giants Real Madrid have announced the passing away of their legend Goyo Benito who died at the age of 73 after illness according to the statement made available.

The Spaniard was among the best Real Madrid players during his active playing time for Los Blancos where he played 422 games in 13 seasons.

Benito came through the ranks at Real Madrid before been sent on loan to Rayo Vallecano in 1966 where he spent two seasons at the club.

Real Madrid chiefs then were impressed with his performances when he was sent on loan which made them to recall him after the years and walked straight into the first team.

Although he played 22 games for Spanish national team, but he never campaigned at any major tournament because his country failed to qualify then.

"Real Madrid C. F., its president and board of directors express their deep regret at the passing of Goyo Benito, one of the great legends of our club's history.

"Real Madrid C. F. wishes to share its condolences and sends its affection to his wife, Paula, and children, Patricia and Rubén, all of his family and loved ones.

"These condolences are also offered on behalf of madridistas from all over the world.

"Goyo Benito was always a fine representative of our club's values. He played for Real Madrid for 13 seasons,''. Real Madrid explained in a statement.

Meanwhile, during Goyo Benito's time playing for Real Madrid, he won six League titles and also five Spanish Cups.
