Rio Ferdinand has urged Mikel Arteta to build a new-look Arsenal side around the likes of youngsters Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Joe Willock.

The trio have been in fine shape for the Gunners this season, forming a major part of Arteta's team set up.

The Arsenal boss has appeared to place his faith in youth since taking over the Emirates job three months ago and vowed to base team selection on performances in training.

His philosophy has seen star names including Alexander Lacazette demoted to the bench, with youngster Eddie Nketiah being preferred ahead of the Frenchman.

And Ferdinand contends Arteta has the right values in motion at the north London club and continue putting his trust in the young players.

"Arsenal is a fantastic football club, what a club, a massive club. I think they’ve got to get it right in other areas of the pitch. Keep bringing in these [players], [Gabriel] Martinelli, [Bukayo] Saka, [Joe] Willock, all these boys," the Man United said on Instagram live.

"I love seeing that but they’ve got to get stability and strength in there, some people who will do good for the club, because it hasn’t worked with the likes of Sokratis and Mustafi, I don’t think they haven’t been able to get it right," he submitted.

With the current season suspended following the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, the Gunners remain hopeful of sealing a Champions League place.

The Arteta-tutored currently sit ninth on the Premier League standings having endured a disappointing campaign this season.
