Coronavirus: Lagos expects survival of most Covid-19 patients - Akin Abayomi

- Lagos state government says there is 100 per cent assurance that all its coronavirus patients will survive

- Akin Abayomi, the state commissioner for health, made this known, saying no mortality has been recorded in the state

- Abayomi also stated that about 150 tests of coronavirus are daily conducted in Lagos state

Lagos government has expressed optimism over the survival of all its coronavirus (Covid-19) patients barely 24 hours after five cases were successfully discharged.

Speaking during a media briefing on the situation of the pandemic on Tuesday, March 31, Lagos commissioner of health, Prof Akin Abayomi, said the survival rate of all coronavirus patients remains 100 per cent.

The commissioner noted that all hands are on deck since the first case was confirmed as the health officials and Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led government have been giving maximum willingness to curb the virus.

He said no fatality has been recorded so far in the state, adding that the mortality rate in countries hit by the virus varies from one another, Vanguard reports.

“Our survival in Lagos is still 100 per cent. We do not have severe cases among the patients. Most of the patients are experiencing a mild to moderate degree of the illness, no patient requires ventilation at the moment.

“Each of those facilities is testing up to 50 per day, so we have about 150 tests per day. We are increasing that capacity by the day, hopefully, we will be able to get to 200 and so on,” he said.

Abayomi, who noted that about 150 testings are carried out on a daily basis in Lagos, said confirmed cases in the state have surged up to six to ten per day.

He described the phase as a commendable one considering the fact that thousands of cases are daily reported in European countries.

Abayomi commended the effort of the state government and enjoined members of the public to practise social distancing and regular hand washing.
