Coronavirus: Mike Adenuga beats others, donates N1.5bn to combat disease
- Nigeria's top entrepreneur, Mike Adenuga, announces the donation of N1.5 billion in the effort to end coronavirus in the country
- A billion naira of the money is to be given to the federal government while Lagos would get the other N500 million
- Adenuga's donation is so far the highest since other businessmen donated N1 billion to the initiative
Mike Adenuga, Nigeria's top businessman, on Monday, March 30, announced a donation of N1.5 billion as his contribution to the fight against coronavirus in Nigeria.
Adenuga's donation is the highest amount so far contributed by Nigerians in the effort to end the pandemic in the country.
The Cable reports that Adenuga said he was giving N1 billion to the federal government and the other N500 million will go to Lagos state which currently has the highest number of cases.
The report said Adenuga made the announcement through a letter he sent to the governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on behalf of his 'Mike Adenuga Foundation'.
The letter quoted Adenuga as saying: "We shall in addition to this contribution actively continue our ongoing efforts to assist various bodies and institutions in the country with the supply of such essential items as sanitizers, masks, test kits, ventillators, PPEs and other necessary requirements.”
In a letter to to the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, Adenuga further said: “Given its broad scope and focused thrust, we are convinced that effective execution of the well-articulated objectives of the coalition is certain to yield the type of very positive results that will stand the country in good stead in the ongoing battle to checkmate the malignant COVID-19 virus.
“We are towards this end pleased to attach a bank cheque in the sum of one billion naira (N1, 000, 000, 000) as our modest initial contribution to the success of this welcome initiative.”
Legit.ng earlier reported that billionaire businesswoman Folorunsho Alakija also pledged N1 billion for Nigeria's fight against coronavirus as cases of the deadly disease continue to rise.

Alakija made the donation through her oil company and commended the efforts made by the federal and state governments, private sectors and individuals towards the fight against coronavirus in Nigeria.
Since coronavirus pandemic hit Nigeria, there have been a lot of donations from Nigerian entrepreneurs to support the country in its fight against the pandemic.
