Odion Ighalo: Merson says Nigerian will not reject Man United’s permanent deal

- Odion Ighalo is expected to be rewarded with a permanent contract at Old Trafford

- The Nigerian has been superb since joining Manchester United

- Paul Merson believes the former Watford man will not reject a permanent deal from the club

Ex-Arsenal star Paul Merson has stated that he does not see Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo rejecting a permanent deal at Old Trafford if Manchester United offer him a contract, GOAL reports.

According to Merson, he does not see the former Watford man turn down a chance to have a permanent deal with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, despite having limited play time.

Ighalo has been impressive since he moved to Manchester United on deadline day scoring four goals in his first three starts. He has featured in five other games which he came late on as a substitute.

With his performance so far, there are reports that United are preparing a permanent offer for the Nigerian striker and Merson thinks the 30-year-old will be glad.

Ighalo’s loan spell will elapse at the end of May 2020 and his parent Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua have offered him a whopping offered a deal worth £400-a-week to return.

Merson said: “When you go to a club on loan you've got that hunger of wanting to secure a permanent move, prove everybody inside the club right and everybody outside the club wrong. All of a sudden, you give someone a contract and they think they've done all the hard work."

Odion Ighalo's superb goal against LASK in their Europa League round of 16 first leg clash has been voted Manchester United's goal of the month for March.

The 30-year-old who joined the Red Devils polled 32 percent of the total vote to win his first silverware at Old Trafford.

His goal was a beauty to watch after showing some incredible footwork before launching a powerful shot into the roof of the net.

Panic at Old Trafford as Coronavirus could hinder Ighalo's current contract extension with Man United

Merson added: “You've only got to look at his time at Watford. He looked a world-beater but then next minute he couldn't score a goal for toffee. But if you are going on the form he's showed since coming to the club in January it's going to be hard to get rid of him."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Adrian Clarke, former Arsenal star, believes Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is the best ball-holding midfielder in the English Premier League, adding that the Leicester City man has been spectacular for the club.

Although Jamie Vardy has been scoring the goals and making the headline for the foxes, Clarke believes Ndidi is the most crucial player for Leicester.

According to him, Ndidi possesses exceptional qualities as he recovers possession very well to help the entire team.
