COVID-19: Governor AbdulRazaq donates 10 months' salary to fight disease

- The Kwara state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has taken a very bold step in the fight against coronavirus

As a philanthropic effort to fight the ravaging global disease, coronavirus, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has donated 100% of his 10 months' salary.

Governor AbdulRazaq made this disclosure in a press briefing on Sunday, March 29, to the state, The Nation reports.

He said that although the state has not recorded any case of the virus, all of humanity needs all the help it can get in this trying time.

The Kwara state governor said that the donation includes his salaries from May 29, 2019, when he was sworn-in till date.

AbdulRazaq said: "...I am hereby donating 100% of my monthly salary since May 29, 2019, when I was sworn-in to our efforts to prevent this virus from getting to us."

He also hailed members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) who gave half of their monthly salary to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in the fight against the pandemic.

Meanwhile, reported that in a bid to assist the federal government in the fight against the spread of coronavirus in Nigeria, the leadership of the National Assembly (NASS) had made an important proposal.

The leadership of the upper chamber was mulling the donation of 50% of senators' salaries for March and use the funds to support the government to deal with the devastating disease. In fact, some principal members of the Senate have begun reaching out to the senators to embark on the move.

The red chamber took a leaf from ministers in the country who recently agreed to use half of their salaries in the month for the same laudable course.

It was believed, according to a high-ranking federal lawmaker, that most senators will key into the vision.

The senator told journalists: “I can assure you that most if not all senators will key into the donation because we all know that nothing will be too small to support the Executive’s decision to wipe out Coronavirus epidemic from our country."
