Boko Haram: Nigerian military kill another top commander

The Nigerian military has confirmed the killing of a top Boko Haram commander, Abu Usamah, during a joint special clearance operation at Gorgi in Damboa LGA of Borno state.

Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko, the acting director defence media operations in a statement on Monday, March 30, said over 100 Boko Haram insurgents were neutralized while scores of them escaped with gunshot wounds.

The military spokesperson said the Boko Haram commander died following gunshot wounds he sustained in the firefight that ensued during the encounter before his foot soldiers hurriedly evacuated him and withdrew.

In another development, Onyeuko disclosed that troops of 159 task force battalion, operation Lafiya Dole, neutralised scores of the Boko Haram Terrorists/Islamic State's West Africa Province insurgents who attempted to infiltrate their base in Kanama, Yunusari LGA of Yobe state.

He said the military high command has congratulated the soldiers their resilience, courage and dedication defending the fatherland against the criminal elements.

In another report, the war against insecurity received a massive boost as the Nigerian Army claimed it arrested eight people suspected to be suppliers of logistics to Boko Haram terrorists in their hideouts.

The suspected Boko Haram members were nabbed by the army while they were heading to Sambisa forest and Lake Chad axis with items including fuel, vehicle spare parts, foodstuffs, and mattresses, Leadership reports.

The army made this known through a statement by the general officer commanding the 7 Division and commander of Operation Lafia Dole Brigadier general AbdulKhalifa Ibrahim.

Ibrahim said upon establishing that the suspects are terrorists, their items were set ablaze. He vowed that terrorists will be dealt with decisively.

He gave the names of the suspects as Abubakar Sadik, Fannami Modu and Modu Chellu of various addresses in Maiduguri metropolis.
