Another Nigerian identified as Hajia Laila Abubakar Ali has died of coronavirus in the United States.
The 60-year-old woman, who was an indigene of Kano, was the elder sister to the permanent secretary of Kano state’s Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Her death was revealed on Thursday, March 26, by Salihu Yakasai, spokesman to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state, Blueprint reports.
Yakasai tweeted: "An indigene of Kano living in America by the name Hajia Laila Abubakar Ali has died of Covid-19.
"The 60yr old died yesterday after being infected. She was the elder sister to the Perm Sec of Ministry of Religious Affairs Kano. May her soul rest in peace.”
In other news, a 72-year-old Italian priest infected with coronavirus has died after giving up his ventilator to help another infected person.
The priest, Don Giuseppe Berardelli, gave up his ventilator to a younger person on Sunday, March 15.
The priest served as the Archpriest of Casnigo in the Diocese of Bergamo in Northern Italy, one of the areas hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Clara Poli, the mayor of the town of Fiorano, where Berardelli was a longtime pastor, the priest was a great person who was always cheerful and full of enthusiasm.
Legit.ng previously reported that a Nigerian man said he cannot contract the deadly coronavirus because the pandemic, according to him, only affects the rich.
The unidentified man admitted that coronavirus is a very dangerous disease and prayed that God should intervene as the country battles with the pandemic.
When asked if he was scared of coronavirus, he said as a Muslim, he can only contract the virus if God destines it, adding that he is not scared of the pandemic.
