The governor of Ondo state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has tested negative for the deadly coronavirus. Akeredolu revealed this information in a tweet shared on his official Twitter account on Thursday, March 26.
Legit.ng gathered that Akeredolu took the coronavirus test after meeting with people in the presidency who have now tested positive to the virus.
The governor revealed that he got confirmation of his results in a text message from Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, the Ondo state commissioner for health.
News of Akeredolu's results is coming after the Ondo state governor dismissed viral claims that he is in self-isolation due to the alleged possible infection with coronavirus.
The governor who gave a press briefing alongside the commissioner of police in the state, Undie Adie, on Wednesday, March 25, referred to such reports are false and unfounded.
He insisted that if he were on self-isolation as falsely reported, he would not have been seen in public places.
Legit.ng had previously reported that the state government has confirmed that there was a suspected case of coronavirus in Akure, the state capital.
The state government has, however, given assurance that the situation is being currently handled. A man simply identified as David who came into Nigeria from the United States was taken to a government hospital in Ondo state after being suspected of having coronavirus.
In a related development, the Ondo state government announced the closure of schools and tertiary institutions in the state from Friday, March 20. The decision became necessary as the whole world is put on lockdown over the virus which is responsible for the death of 10,000 people with thousands of lives on the red line.
Briefing the people of Ondo on Thursday, March 19, Akeredolu said all hands are on deck to prevent the outbreak of the life-endangering infection in the state.
Similarly, the governor of Niger state, Abubakar Sani Bello, has reportedly gone on self-isolation after possible exposure to some of Nigeria's confirmed coronavirus cases.
Governor Bello took the decision to self-isolate following his presence at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum meeting which was held on Wednesday, March 18.
Mary Noel Berje, Governor Bello's media aide, said the Niger state governor has been tested and is now awaiting his status as he self-isolates.
