Coronavirus: FCT minister Ramatu in isolation, awaits test result

- Even the minister of state for the FCT, Ramatu Aliyu, has gone into self-isolation

- Aliyu has also subjected herself for the necessary test for the virus and is currently awaiting the results

Ramatu Aliyu, the minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has subjected herself to coronavirus test and is awaiting the result.

Aliyu said that at the moment, she is in self-isolation. The minister revealed that she recently had physical contact with persons who tested positive for the disease.

On her Twitter page, she stated: "I feel well &have been in self-isolation since yesterday evening, because, I was in contact with people who tested positive for Corona Virus."

She advised Nigerians to uphold utmost hygiene so as to ensure safety in relation to the virus and urged everyone to adhere to precautionary measures given by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that as a preventive measure to curb the spread of coronavirus, the minister of the FCT, Muhammad Musa Bello, had imposed a partial lockdown on Abuja.

Bello also directed all public servants of the FCT on grade level downwards to stay away from work until further notice.

However, he explained that medical, environmental and security operations are exempted from the ban which affects social gatherings like parks, gardens, event centres, night clubs, bars, football viewing centres.

In a press briefing to journalists on Tuesday, March 24, the minister warned that there will be serious consequences for anyone who disobeys the earlier ban on academic and religious gatherings.

Added to this, Legit.ng reported that the apex Islamic body in the country, Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), had ordered the immediate closure of all mosques in the FCT as a way of stemming the steady spread of the coronavirus pandemic among the Muslim faithful during prayers.
