Coronavirus: Kano indigene living in America dies of Covid-19

- A Nigerian of Kano origin living in the United States has died of coronavirus

- The deceased, a 60-year-old woman identified as Hajia Laila Abubakar Ali, was the elder sister to the permanent secretary of Kano state's Ministry of Religious Affairs

- Nigeria had recorded the first coronavirus death after a 67-year-old man who returned home following medical treatment in the UK succumbed to the disease

Hajia Laila Abubakar Ali, an indigene of Kano living in the United States has reportedly died of coronavirus.

The death of the 60-year-old woman was announced by Salihu Yakasai, spokesman to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state on Thursday, March 26.

According to Yakasai, the deceased was the elder sister to the permanent secretary of Kano state's Ministry of Religious Affairs.

"An indigene of Kano living in America by the name Hajia Laila Abubakar Ali has died of Covid-19. The 60yr old died yday after being infected. She was the elder sister to the Perm Sec of Ministry of Religious Affairs Kano. May her soul rest in peace," Yakasai tweeted.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Nigeria had recorded the first coronavirus death after a 67-year-old man who returned home following medical treatment in the UK succumbed to the disease.

This was disclosed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in a tweet on Monday, March 23.

The deceased man reportedly has underlying medical conditions. Specifically, he was suffering from multiple myeloma & diabetes. He was also undergoing chemotherapy.

In another related report, DR Congo has lost an important aide to President Félix Tshisekedi, Jean-Joseph Mukendi wa Mulumba, to the deadly coronavirus.

According to BBC, Mulumba is the third person to die of Covid-19 complications in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Legit.ng gathers that the deceased was a respected human rights lawyer and the acting head of President Tshisekedi’s legal advisory council.

Meanwhile, as the world battles with coronavirus pandemic, a Nigerian microbiologist has started research in search of a cure for the deadly disease.

Legit.ng gathers that the microbiologist, simply identified as Gracious, took to her Twitter page to make the disclosure on Friday, March 20.

She tweeted: "I have entered the lab and I won't leave until I find the cure for coronavirus."
