Actor Alkali Matt dies while filming on set at age 36

Nollywood has lost another actor to the cold hands of death. 36-year-old Alkali Matt reportedly passed away while shooting on a movie set on Tuesday, March 24.

The young actor, who was known as Dareng on the popular Nollywood series Halita, was said to have been filming an epic movie in Masaka village in Karu local government area, Nasarawa state.

According to Halita production company, Familiar Grounds Media, he was one of the much-valued cast on the set. The executive producer, Dimbo Atiya, announced the sad news on her Instagram page.

Atiya prayed that the Lord will grant Matt's family the fortitude to bear the loss and wished him a peaceful rest.

Not long after the news was announced, controversial journalist Kemi Olunloyo had reported that the actor passed away after being exposed to someone who had coronavirus.

Atiya immediately shared another Instagram post to shut down the claims. The executive producer revealed that Matt had a blood clot condition and he was always treating with doctors, but the actor recently sort out a traditional solution.

The executive producer also added that the cause of his death has not been revealed. Atiya said the production company offered to do an autopsy but his family members said they wanted to bury their son in peace.

In the statement, it was added that Matt never attended the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards. Atiya made it clear that even if Matt had contact with anyone who had coronavirus it was not on Halita set because he stopped filming on their set a month ago and they shut down on Monday, March 23.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Nollywood was recently faced with another tragedy after losing a popular actor and scriptwriter, Gbenga Ajumoko. The actor reportedly passed away months after battling with two chronic ailments.

The actor, who was from Ijebu, Ogun state, was said to have been hospitalised for over six months after he was diagnosed. He was being treated at a hospital in Sagamu, Remo in Ogun state. According to reports, Ajumoko was diagnosed with kidney failure and diabetes disease.

It was also reported that the actor was earlier diagnosed with hypertension, which led to the failure of his kidneys. It was said that Ajumoko was being treated in secret when he was diagnosed but when the illness got worse it was revealed to the public.
