Coronavirus: Saraki’s wife Toyin assembles scientists to fight deadly infection

- Toyin Saraki said her initiative, Wellbeing Foundation Africa, has assembled a team of experts to help fight coronavirus

- Toyin, who is the wife of the former Senate president Bukola Saraki, is a global health advocate and healthcare philanthropist

- The 55-year-old health advocate said she will be partnering with Wendy Graham, a professor at the London School of Hygiene, and others to fight the virus in Africa

Toyin Saraki, wife of the president of eighth Senate, Bukola Saraki, has assembled a team of doctors and medical experts to help fight the spread of coronavirus.

Saraki made this known in a statement by her spokesman, Shola Ayelabola, on Tuesday, March 25, Daily Trust reports.

She said that as a special adviser to the independent advisory group to the World Health Organisation (WHO) regional office for Africa, it is pertinent for her to lend hands of support to the fight against the global pandemic.

Saraki, dubbed as a global health advocate and healthcare philanthropist, is the founder and president of Wellbeing Foundation Africa -- an initiative she said will encourage best practices in homes and healthcare facilities.

The wife of the former Senate president further said her organisation will be partnering with Wendy Graham who is a professor of Obstetrics and Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to reduce the spread of diseases in African homes.

She said: “In the fight against coronavirus, we must put this knowledge to good use and take action, keep hands and surfaces clean and safe.”

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases is becoming frightening after Nigeria recorded two more cases of coronavirus, bringing the total toll of the confirmed cases to 46 as the pandemic fast-spreads beyond boundaries.

In a tweet on Wednesday, March 25, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said the new cases were recorded in Ogun and Lagos.

Abba Kyari, President Muhammadu Buhari's chief of staff had raised an alarm over the arrogance of some lawmakers to health officials at the national airports.

In his letter directed to the speaker of House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila dated Saturday, March 21, Kyari alleged that some lawmakers who returned from oversea failed to comply with directives and violated airport screening procedure.
