Jonathan Woodgate has been listed among Real Madrid’s worst starting eleven of the 21st century, a list compiled by popular Spanish outlet Marca, as cited in SunSport.
The ex-England international had a terrible spell when he joined the La Liga giants from Premier League side Newcastle. He started on a poor note and it remained like that until he left.
The former Leeds United star joined Newcastle for a whopping £9million in 2003 where he was outstanding despite lingering injury woes. He impressed for the side in European competitions and that attracted Real Madrid which signed him for £13.4million in 2004.
Woodgate failed to make a single appearance for Los Blancos during the whole of 2004/2005 season and to make matters worse, when he eventually made his debut for the Spanish team, he not only scored an own goal, he was sent off in the game for two bookable offences.
In desperate bid to impress, he went on to feature for the side 14 times but was later loaned to Middlesbrough and then permanently for £7 million.
He is the current the manager of Middlesbrough.
