Coronavirus: Ecobank shuts Abuja branch, puts all staff on isolation
- Ecobank has reported that one of its customers who tested positive for coronavirus has died
- The bank as a result of this temporality closed down its Wuse II branch in Abuja over the issue
- In a statement, the bank explained that all staff of the branch are now in self-isolation
Ecobank has shut down its branch at Abuja following the first coronavirus death of Suleiman Achimugu, the former managing director of Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) who was at the bank premises about twelve days ago.
This was revealed in a statement the bank shared on its official Twitter account @ecobank_nigeria on Monday, March 23.
According to the bank, the 67-year-old who was one of its most valued customers visited the Wuse II branch on Thursday, March 12, when he was symptoms-free.
Going further, the bank also revealed that the branch has been temporarily closed and all staff have been put on mandatory self-isolation for 14 days in compliance with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)'s guidelines.
Ecobank went on to urge people who visited that particular branch between March 12 and now to take necessary steps and self-isolate themselves for the next 14 days.
This incident is coming barely up to twenty-four hours after Access bank reported that one of its customers tested positive for coronavirus and as a result of this closed down the Ligali Ayorinde branch in Lagos.
This was revealed in a statement by the bank on Twitter. According to the bank, the customer who was symptoms-free when he came to its premises is currently receiving treatment in Yaba.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Nigeria recorded the first coronavirus death after a 67-year-old man who returned home following medical treatment in the UK succumbed to the disease.
This was disclosed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in a tweet on Monday, March 23. The deceased man reportedly had underlying medical conditions. Specifically, he was suffering from multiple myeloma & diabetes. He was also undergoing chemotherapy.

In a related development, President Muhammadu Buhari has been tested negative of the pandemic coronavirus. But the president's chief of staff, Abba Kyari, has been confirmed positive of coronavirus.
Kyari who returned from Germany on March 14, did not self isolate as NCDC directed and attended a meeting on Saturday, March 21, in Aso rock on containing the virus where he began to cough repeatedly and thereafter surrendered himself for testing. He has now gone into self-isolation for treatment.
