Turkish League table-toppers Trabzonspor have labeled Nigerian star John Obi Mikel a 'liar' after his decision to quit his £5 million deal and be with his family.
The 32-year-old former Chelsea star slammed the Turkish FA following their refusal to suspend the Super Lig amid spread of coronavirus.
After his comment, the former Super Eagles midfielder was summoned by the Black Sea Storm president Ahmet Agaoglu who told him to take down his Instagram post.
But Chelsea legend insisted that he was ready to return home to his family and self-isolate to further reduce the spread of the virus.
Trabzonspor have now released a statement claiming the club had taken all the necessary precautions towards protecting their players from contracting the virus as reported by SunSport.
The club spokesperson said: “Mikel’s claim about our club stated in the news you have made does not reflect the truth.
“Trabzonspor Club has taken all the necessary precautions against Covid-19 in a very short time.
“In accordance with the information given by the Ministry of Health, the health committee of our club has informed our footballers. “The facilities, pitches and the stadium have been disinfected.
“Restrictions of the access of the guests in the club training ground, including even the guests of the players themselves, have been placed.
“Our staff at the facilities has started to work from home in accordance with the social distancing rule.
“Despite of all the precautions and common sense calls, Mikel wanted to go to the United Kingdom, where his family is located.

“He was also informed that he would not be able to come back due to the restrictions on international flights.
Meanwhile, the Turkish League has been suspended until further notice as COVID-19 continues to spread like wildfire.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Didier Drogba has thrown his weight behind John Mikel Obi after quitting the Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor due to Coronavirus crisis, cited on Instagram.
The former Nigerian international parted ways with the club after he refused to honour a home league match at the weekend of because of the spread of the deadly virus.
It is understood that the ex-Chelsea midfielder slammed the board for going ahead with the match and both parties agreed to terminate their dealings with each other.
