La Liga defending champions Barcelona are reportedly eyeing a move for SS Lazio defender Luiz Felipe as a replacement for aging Gerard Pique this summer.

SunSport reports that the Catalans are hoping they can find a long-term replacement for the Spaniard who clocked 33 last month.

The 2010 World Cup winner started his youth career at the famous La Masia but joined Manchester United in 2004 where he spent four years before returning to Camp Nou in 2008.

Barca are also unsure what the future holds for Frenchman Samuel Umtiti who was linked with a move to join Manchester United and Arsenal.

Luiz has been impressive for his Italian League club this season - scoring once and assisting another in over 20 appearances.

The Brazilian-born star has been adjudged as one of the best defenders in Italy and he could be available for about £18 million at the end of this season.

Although, his current deal with his present club expires in the summer of 2022 - with the club planning to hand him a contract extension.

His agent Stefano Castagna hinted that his client could complete a move to Camp Nou this summer - claiming his client's style is ideal for LaLiga football.

He told Mundo Deportivo: "If Barca follows you, it is an honour, although the player now has his head in Lazio and trying to win the title.

"He is a very complete center back, very technical, very fast, only 22 years old and has a community passport. His game is ideal for Spanish football.

"For now nobody spoke to me. What I can tell you is that thanks to the great campaign he is doing with Lazio, several clubs asked about him before the coronavirus outbreak, so it would not surprise me if he also sparked Barca’s interest.”
