Director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has given reasons why the orientation camp exercise was suspended.

According to him, it was suspended as a precautionary measure to avoid cases of crornavirus (COVID-19).

He said no case of the virus has been recorded as at the time of this report.

Going further, he said even though they have taken measures but there was still need to suspend the camp activities to ensure that no case is recorded.

Daily Trust reports that he said the corps members will be recalled to camp to complete their orientation camp exercise whenever the Ministry of Health and National Commission for Disease Control (NCDC) confirm that the virus is no longer a threat.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that as the spread of COVID-19 becomes more worrisome for the world, the governments of various countries are taking necessary precautions to keep their citizens safe and Nigeria is not left out.

Earlier on, Legit.ng reported that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has ordered that all orientation camps across Nigeria be shut. The directive was issued from the NYSC headquarters in Abuja early Wednesday, March 18.

Following the news, Nigerians have taken to social media to react to the closure of orientation camps across the country. As it is common with many Nigerian social media users, the news was turned into funny memes on Twitter.

However, there were people who expressed actual concern over the news. While others believe the move was the right one as the believed it was unsafe considering the crowd, others however, believed otherwise.

According to some, the camp was the perfect place to keep corp members safe as it was like a mini quarantine for them.
