President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, March 17, met with Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa state at the presidential villa, Abuja, a report by the Nigerian Tribune indicates.
The newspaper reports that the meeting between the president and the new governor of Bayelsa state was behind closed-doors.
Legit.ng gathers that Diri, after the meeting, told newsmen that President Buhari expressed delight in the way he had carried on since he assumed office as the governor of Bayelsa state.
Recall that Diri, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emerged as the governor after the Supreme Court sacked the All Progressive Congress's governor-elect, David Lyon.
Governor Diri in a recent report by Legit.ng said his return to power was earlier prophesied by the general overseer of Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.
The governor reportedly made this confession during his testimony service at the church's headquarters along Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Friday, March 6.
Speaking in the midst of the congregation, Diri said when he lost the election to the candidate of APC, David Lyon, he came to the church to seek divine guidance and proceeded with the judiciary process.
He said Pastor Adeboye told him that he would become governor, a prophecy that came to pass after a long battle run at the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Governor Diri donated the N40 million awarded by the Supreme Court to him and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, to the church to promote the work of God.
Recall that the Supreme Court on Wednesday, February 26, fined the APC's lawyers, Afe Babalola and Wole Olanipekun, over their failed application for a review of the judgment that sacked Lyon.
In another report, the APC in Bayelsa state has criticised the decision of Governor Diri to take a bank loan of N2.9 billion for buying of operational vehicles.
The party described the decision by the governor, his deputy, and other top government functionaries to purchase the cars as “scandalous, unsympathetic and ungodly.”
APC disclosed this in a statement by Doifie Ola, the state publicity secretary.
According to the party, Diri was insensitive to the plights of the state civil servants because it came at a time civil servants and pensioners in the state have not been paid.
