The Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) took place on Saturday, March 14, 2020, and it saw some actors like Ramsey Nouah bagging as many as eight awards for his movie, Living in Bondage.

AMVCA is an annual event to recognise outstanding achievement in television and film. The award is Africa’s most prestigious celebration of film and TV talent but not many people were pleased with the just-concluded event.

After the end of the seventh edition of the awards ceremony, some celebrities came out to express their displeasure. The latest celebrity to share his opinion about the award is Nollywood actor Zubby Michael. The movie star took to his social media page to reveal his thoughts about the event.

Referring to the award as a joke, Michael said it was highly political. According to him, the organisers of the event did not regard veterans who he said were the pillars of the Nigerian film industry.

He questioned how his colleague, Ramsey Nouah’s film could win eight awards when the actors who were in the original movie were not acknowledged. Michael mentioned film stars like late Sam Loco, Patience Ozokwor, Kanayo O Kanayo among others.

Michael stated that the reason why these people were not recognised could be because most of the organisers were from the Yoruba tribe. Calling the award a fake, Michael said that he knows that he is great without it.

In a related event, Legit.ng earlier reported that actress Lisa Omorodion called out AMVCA for discriminating against plus-size women. The actress complained that none of the plus-sized women made it to the Best Dressed list. She noted that the fashion industry created a fantasy of what women were supposed to wear and a lot of them struggle to fit into this.

She questioned if style and the Best Dressed list was for skinny women alone.
