- Segun Oni is getting a lot of heat over his plans to defect from the APC to the PDP
- First, some members of the APC have referred to Oni as being an ingrate
- Also, Shehu Sani has said that the former deputy chairman of the ruling party will go into oblivion if he leaves the APC
A former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has reacted to the proposed defection of Segun Oni from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sani, on his official Twitter page, recalled that Oni back in 2019 said that APC is the future and defecting from it meant going into oblivion.
The former outspoken senator said that the ex-deputy national chairman made this comment while he was in Kaduna.
Sani said that with Oni's plans to defect from the party, he is on his way to oblivion, having dumped the future behind him.
In a tone which some see as sarcastic, Sani said: "Brother Segun Oni was sent to Kaduna over a year ago & told us that the ruling party is the future & that if we leave it we will be heading to oblivion.
"Bro Oni is now leaving the future and taking a flight to oblivion. I’m at the oblivion airport lounge now awaiting his arrival."
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Ekiti state chapter of the APC had declared it was not surprised with the imminent defection of Oni from the party to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Oni, while speaking in an exclusive chat on Monday, March 16, had said he was taking the decision in the interest of his political family whom he said were not fairly dealt with in terms of appointments in the party.
Legit.ng gathered that he said he would not be pulling out of the party until the second half of the year after he must have had consulted widely with some leaders within the APC, adding, however, that “we have taken the final decision to leave the party.”
Reacting to Oni's planned defection, the publicity secretary of APC in the state, Ade Ajayi, said the former governor refused to attend his ward meeting when he was suspended to explain himself.
The party spokesman added that the party never gave him an unfair treatment, rather, he said was accorded the necessary respect and recognition when he joined the party from the PDP in 2014.
While describing Oni as an “ungrateful soul” that enjoyed every benefit with the party, Ajayi wished him well in his future political endeavour.
