- A woman, Amaka Okonkwo, is yet to wake up to the reality of losing three children to the explosion that occurred in Lagos
- One of the children had returned from London to attend the wedding ceremony of his younger one
The elderly woman only survived because she went to church and left the three children at home
What many parents pray against - never to be alive to bury their own children - is what just happened to Amaka Okonkwo and she is finding it had to believe.
The elderly woman lost three children, adults, to the Sunday, March 15, explosion that rocked a part of Lagos bringing down houses and causing serious grief among families.
One of the children, according to The Cable, was preparing for a wedding ceremony. Another just returned from London to because of the marriage that was on top gear.
The wedding was supposed to hold on Saturday, March 21.
The two of them and one other died in the incident that happened at Soba, a community at Abule Ado area of the state.
Could it be a dream? Amaka Okonkwo still thinks so. The reality is still hanging in the air as she was said to have exclaimed: “Oh, Lord!!! This is unbearable. It’s too much for me!”
Sympathisers who had thronged to where she was on the floor asking rhetorical questions would also have found it hard to contain their emotions as the woman rolled on parts of the debris caused by the explosion.
For Amaka, the world has crumbled and all that she had worked for have disappeared just like that.
The report quoted one Victor Okoli, a resident, as saying that Amaka was the only one that went to church that day and that she had left her children at home.
This is why she became the only one that survived the explosion.
A resident said they were four in the building and the woman had gone to church while the others were at home.
"I was also in the church when I heard the sound. Everybody else was in the church,” the resident said.
The family is not the only one that lost loved ones. Legit.ng reported that a couple, an only son and an only daughter, who just married less than two years ago, also lost their lives in the incident.
The couple, according to their neighbours, got married two years ago.
