- The All Progressives Congress has announced the postponement of its National Executive Committee NEC meeting
- The NEC meeting of the ruling party was earlier slated for Tuesday, March 17
- This information was disclosed by the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, and Governor of Kebbi state, Atiku Bagudu
The proposed National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, has been suspended indefinitely.
Abubakar Bagudu, the chairman of APC governor’s forum and Kebbi state governor revealed this on Monday, March 16, while speaking with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The decision to suspend the NEC meeting was made during a closed-door meeting between Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari and APC governors under the platform called the Progressive Governors’Forum (PGF), The Nation reports.
In another report by Vanguard, Bagudu said President Buhari was pleased to endorse the suggestion to postpone the NEC meeting.
It was also gathered that the indefinite suspension of the NEC meeting was forced following the governor’s disagreement.
Legit.ng previously reported that 16 out of the 20 APC governors were present at the meeting. Those reportedly present were governors of Borno, Lagos, Ogun, Edo, Kebbi, Jigawa, Osun, Imo, Gombe, Niger, Katsina, Plateau, Ondo, Kano, Kwara, and Nassarawa.
Meanwhile, there seems to be a ray of hope for Adams Oshiomhole, the suspended national chairman of the APC, even in the midst of his present travails.
In a related development, the crisis biting hard on APC hit the crescendo as a move by the appeal court to hear the verdict challenging the suspension of the embattled chairman was put off on Monday, March 16.
Oshiomhole and his loyalists were reported to be at the court premises since 8 am on Monday to know his fate but the panel to preside on the judgement led by Justice Stephen Adah rose up minutes after beginning the hearing.
Similarly, the plot to depose Adams of his APC national chairmanship thickened as some ministers in President Muhammadu Buhari's cabinet reportedly picked Oshiomhole's replacement.
Oshiomhole has been in the storm since he was suspended by the Abuja Federal High Court from parading himself as the national chairman of the party amid growing allegations of high-handedness.
