Lovely throwback photos of the deposed Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido and his first wife Sadiya Ado Bayero have emerged and it is going viral on the internet.
Although not much is known about the former emir’s first wife, it is evident that she is from the Kano royal family.
According to reports, Sadiya is Sanusi Lamido's first cousin. She is the seventh daughter and 16th child of late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, and also sister to the present Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, who took over from her deposed husband.

The couple started dating when they were quite young and got married in the 80s in a beautiful Fulani marriage ceremony.
In an interview Sadiya granted to a Hausa magazine called Aminiya a few years ago, she revealed that she met her husband through her own family. She noted that he was like a brother as he grew up in the Emir's palace.

"I knew I was going to be betrothed but I didn’t know when since I wasn’t being asked when. I met my husband through my own family – he is like my brother. He grew up in the Emir palace and I thought he was my elder brother because he was always with my older brothers. I grew up seeing him in our house so I was surprised when he started to show interest in me. I later discovered we were not related and married him."

The beautiful couple has reportedly been married for over two decades and when Sadiya was asked how she has been able to stay married to her influential husband, she said that being patient and obedient irrespective of her social status has helped her.
