Shamsudeen Bala, a son of the governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed, has lost his bid to recover some of his properties forfeited to the federal government.

The governor's son had asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to set aside a ruling which ordered the temporary forfeiture of the properties following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2017.

However, the EFCC in a statement on its website on Thursday, March 12, said the court refused to set aside the order of interim forfeiture of the properties.

Legit.ng gathers that Shamsudeen is being prosecuted for money laundering offence on an amended 14-count charge.

The anti-graft agency told the court that the properties are believed to be the proceeds of illegal activities.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Mohammed of Bauchi state allegedly ordered the arrest of two of his predecessors, Isa Yuguda and Mohammed Abubakar.

The former governors were accused of looting properties and assets belonging to the state government worth over a trillion naira during their administrations.

Governor Mohammed "gave the indication" after receiving a report of the state’s asset recovery committee.

However, Ex-governor Yuguda said he will sue the state's recovery committee that indicted him for allegedly taking over N1 trillion.

Also, Salisu Barau, a former commissioner described the allegations as baseless, adding that his principal will take legal action to clear his name.

Barau noted that he saw the report on social media but kept quiet as it is one of the political gimmicks from the Bauchi state government.

He added that this was a ploy to distract the people so the government can continue maladministration.

According to Salisu, the money the state government claimed was carted away by the previous administrations does not reflect the reality in the state.
