As the controversial removal of former emir Muhammadu Sanusi continues to pull the storm across the country, former head of state General Abdulsalami Abubakar said all attempts to pacify all grudging parties proved futile.

General Abdulsalami, who headed the reconciliation committee of Sanusi and Governor Umar Ganduje feud, made this known while reacting to the repulsive removal of the immediate Kano monarch which has seen the north region polarised.

Legit.ng recalls in what sent a massive wave of shock to many Nigerians, Kano state government on Monday, March 9, dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, following months of much heat which has seen the traditional monarch pitched against the state order.

Alhaji Usman Alhaji, Kano's SSG, said the emir was dethroned over disrespect towards the established constituted institution of the state.

Speaking with the Hausa channel of Voice of America, the former head of state expressed shock over Sanusi's dethronement and stressed that separate peace meetings were called with the former emir and governor.

He said Sanusi and Ganduje were also called together to water down the brewing crisis but was surprised when he heard of the emir's dethronement.

Abdulsalami, who claimed to be out of the country when the incident happened, also said he doubted if President Muhammadu Buhari ever intervened in the Kano crisis.

The former head of state noted that had the president intervened, the crisis would not have boomeranged into the stage where the former CBN governor was sacked and banished.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported a human rights group, Amnesty International has reacted to the dethronement and 'banishment' of former emir Muhammadu Sanusi II by the government of Kano state.

Reacting in a series of tweets on Tuesday, March 10, the Nigerian offshoot of the international human right group raised concern over the security and constitutional rights and freedom of the deposed emir.

Amnesty said the move by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led Kano government to hold Sanusi in 'incommunicado' is suggestive of a gross violation of his fundamental rights.
