Bauchi governor allegedly orders arrest, prosecution of ex-govs Yuguda, Abubakar

- Governor Bala of Bauchi state has allegedly ordered the arrest of his predecessors, Isa Yuguda and MA Abubakar

- The two former governors were allegedly indicted in a report by the committee Bala set up to investigate assets diverted between 2007 and 2019

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi state has allegedly ordered the arrest of two of his predecessors, Isa Yuguda and Mohammed Abubakar.

Leadership newspaper reports that the former governors were accused of looting properties and assets belonging to the state government worth over a trillion naira during their administrations.

The newspaper states that Governor Bala "gave the indication" after receiving a report of the state’s asset recovery committee.

Legit.ng gathers that the committee was mandated to investigate assets allegedly diverted between 2007 and 2019.

Governor Bala allegedly vowed to recover the looted assets and ensure prosecution of the ex-governors and their officials who were indicted by the committee.

The Bauchi state governor added that the recommendations of the committee will be fully studied to ensure a full prosecution of everyone indicted.

The acting chairman of the committee, Retired General Markus Koko Yake, said various scandals and diversion of government properties were discovered between 2007 and 2019 when Yuguda and Abubakar served as governors of the state.

The committee reportedly asked the former governors and others to refund over one trillion naira allegedly looted during their tenures.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Bala said his priority was not to investigate his immediate predecessor, Mohammed Abubakar.

He, however, noted that he would not hesitate his immediate predecessor if anything is found against him.

According to Governor Bala, he became the most investigated person after he left the ministerial position.

In another report, The Bauchi state governor has unveiled his administration's blueprint and roadmap for a greater Bauchi state and also promised to conduct local government election in July.

The governor unveiled this at the opening ceremony of a 2 days retreat programme for members of the state executive council, special advisers, permanent secretaries, former heads of ministerial department and political appointees holding at Bauchi state University Gadau.

He noted that conducting the local government elections will deepen democracy by bringing government closer to the people and allowing them to take charge of decisions that affect their lives.
