The embattled national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, has gotten a confidence vote from state chairmen of the party.
The confidence vote was passed on Oshiomhole shortly after the executives emerged from a meeting in Abuja on Monday, March 9, The Sun reports.
In a communique issued by the executives, the group questioned why Oshiomhole was being vilified when he had led the party to more recent electoral victories than in 2015.
The state chairmen accused detractors and enemies of the APC of being behind the call for Oshiomhole’s removal.
The party executives urged party members in court to seek political solutions to the disagreements within the party.
“We the State Chairmen frown at the level of impunity being experienced in our great party in which, unauthorized individuals will issue press statements using the name of our party to deceive the leaders of the party and the unsuspecting public, thereby causing disaffection among the party leadership. All individuals involved in this practice should be mindful that their conduct is prohibited under the relevant sections of our party Constitution,” the executives said.
“We, the State Chairmen, unequivocally state that the party is bigger than the inordinate ambition of any individual and as such, we will not tolerate any unlawful step(s) by those igniting crisis in our party.
Meanwhile, it appears President Muhammadu Buhari has taken a decision to step in and find a lasting solution to the crisis rocking the APC.
The crisis is threatening Adams Oshiomhole's position as national chairman of the ruling party. He was restrained by a court order during the week to stop parading himself as APC chairman.
A reliable source who spoke to The Nation said Buhari, the leader of the party, has raised a three-man team to liaise with those who are aggrieved with the national chairman of the APC, Oshiomhole.
There are indications also that the president might ask the National Caucus of the party to lend a helping hand in resolving the crisis.
According to the source, who spoke in confidence, Buhari and his kitchen cabinet are not pleased that his administration is being distracted by the crisis over the fate of the embattled APC national chairman.
