A reported plan to submit a report recommending the removal of Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II is said to have resulted in a fight in the Kano state House of Assembly.
Daily Nigerian reports that the crisis started on Monday morning, March 9, when the deputy speaker, Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, sought the approval of the House to present a report by a committee which investigated a petition against the emir for alleged violation of culture and tradition of the state.
However, members of the PDP in the House called for the report to be delayed till Tuesday, March 10, for further investigation.
The disagreement among legislators was said to have led to a rowdy session as members of the PDP reportedly attempted to take control of the mace.
The Nation reports that the rowdy session lasted for about 25 minutes before the House was restored back to normalcy and went for a 30 minutes break.
The newspaper stated that security has was then beefed up at the Assembly to forestall further crisis.
Meanwhile, the Kano state Public complaints and anti-Corruption Commission has been restrained from proceeding with its plan to investigate Emir Muhammad Sanusi II. The restraining order was given by a Federal High Court in Kano on Friday, March 6, The Nation reports.
Delivering the order, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa directed both the petitioner and the plaintiff to maintain present status-quo until the court hears and decides on the substantive suit brought before it by the emir.
Defendants in the suit against the monarch include the chairman of the above-named commission, Muhyi Magaji, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Attorney General of Kano, Ibrahim Mukhtar.
This decision the court was made known after an experte order motion moved by Sanusi's lawyer, Nuraini Jimoh, was granted.
