A few days to the D-day, Williams pulled out citing an injury, and Joey Abell, an American, became his new opponent. Abell retired to his corner after the fourth round, making The Cobra the winner.
Initially, he started slow, and Abell seemed to have the upper hand. However, he pulled up his socks in the second round and maintained his pace to the end of the match.
Pulev vs. Klitschko
On the 8th of May 2014, the relevant IBF officials ordered a Pulev vs. Klitschko match, and both parties were given a 30-day grace period for negotiations. Bernd Boente, Wladimir Klitschko's manager, argued that his client's fight against Bermane Stiverne was the top-most priority.
There was some back and forth for a while, and Klitschko also suffered a bicep injury, so the game was postponed for two months.
The game was finally held on the 15th of November. Although he put his best foot forward, Klitschko gave him three knockdowns and a final knockout in the fifth round. In a later interview, The Cobra admitted that Klitschko was a good opponent, but he was merely lucky on that day. He wanted a rematch.

The fight between the boxer and Johnson took place on the 28th of April 2017, and it went on for 12 rounds. Unfortunately, the game was marred by foul play. Kobrata had the upper hand in all the rounds and judges seemed to agree with that.
However, he got away with rabbit punching throughout the match even after a warning. On the other hand, Johnson had clean shots but did not win the game. The athlete's win placed him in line for the world title championships.
World title fight canceled
Anthony Joshua beat Eric Molina in the third round of a match that was held on the 10th of December 2016. Following the win, Gilberto J. Mendoza, the then WBA president, announced the Joshua vs. Klitschko fight.
He also announced that Joshua would have to face a mandatory challenger, Luis Ortiz. A day later, The Cobra was named as the mandatory challenger for the winner by IBF. On the 7th of June 2017, IBF allowed Joshua to rematch Klitschko instead of the mandatory challenger.
Klitschko responded by stating that he would think about the situation before agreeing to the rematch. IBF said that the winner of the rematch would have to face The Cobra. On the 3rd of August 2017, Klitschko announced on social media and his website that he would be retiring from boxing.
The IBF then decided that Joshua would face Kobrata next and gave the two parties a grace period of 30 days to reach an agreement. On the 28th of August, the relevant authorities announced that Joshua and The Cobra would face each other at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
On 16th October 2017, rumors circulated that the mandatory challenger had suffered an injury and that the officials had chosen to keep it a secret for 10 days. Later, the injury was revealed, and Carlos Takam, who was ranked third by IBF, would replace the mandatory challenger on a 12-day notice. He had suffered a shoulder injury during sparring.
Pulev vs. Hughie Fury
The IBF ordered a Pulev vs. Dominic Breazeale match for a final eliminator, but Dominic Breazeale refused to participate. In April, The Cobra was ordered to face Dillian Whyte, a British boxer, on the boxing ring, and a bid was decided upon for the 10th of May.
Unfortunately, the bid was delayed, and Whyte pulled out on the 7th of June, a move that angered the boxer. On the 16th of June, IBF ordered a Pulev vs. Jarrell Miller game. Miller was ranked at position three among American boxers.
By the 2nd of July, there was no bidding agreement between both teams. The negotiations broke down on the 10th of July.
The next highest challenger was Hughie Fury, and both parties agreed that the two boxers would face each other in Sofia, Bulgaria, on the 27th of October 2018. The Cobra defeated Fury in a 12 round game and was declared the mandatory challenger for the IBF heavyweight title.
Before the match, Fury had suffered a cut over his eye, so he took advantage and opened the cut up. Fury played aggressively but cautiously due to his open wound.

On the 9th of November 2019 at the Chukchansi Park in Fresno, California, The Cobra tackled Booker in the ring. He appeared slow and weak, but he still won the match through a unanimous decision among the judges.
The scorecards from the three judges were 99-91, 98-92, and 98-92. During the game, it was apparent that Booker lacked punching power and spent most of his time covering up as his opponent threw jabs at him. Critics argued that the match looked like mere sparring at the gym instead of a professional fight.
