Insecurity: Obasanjo, Gowon, Danjuma urged to unite Nigerians

- Obasanjo has been urged to help in uniting Nigerians

- Gowon and Danjuma were also urged to put aside their differences over insecurity

- The call was made by Christian elders in Lagos

Concerned about the rising insecurity in the country, the National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) has urged former Nigerian leaders Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo and Theophilus Danjuma to put aside their differences and intervene on Christians’ behalf.

The group said this after a meeting in Lagos and signed by its chairman, Solomon Asemota (SAN).

Going further, the group claimed that Christians have not come together to project a united front.

Also, they criticised the Christian Association of Nigeria over unresolved issues in the group.

They also urged monarchs to defend their people against insurgents.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Obasanjo revealed what the Nigerian government needs to end high rate of insecurity in the country.

Channel TV reports that he said all hands must be on deck to address security challenges in the country.

Legit.ng gathered that while speaking during a courtesy visit by a special envoy to the archbishop of Canterbury, Archbishop Justin Welby, in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, Obasanjo maintained that all Nigerians must work and pray to restore unity amongst all.

He said: “There are so many areas in the world where attentions are needed for peace, equity, and justice. We just cannot as children of God, fold our hands where needs abound for us to do something."

The former president, while narrating conversations with some African leaders recently, stressed that other countries on the continent see Nigeria as a big brother, but show worries that issues of unity and security haven’t been addressed.

Also, Legit.ng had previously reported that Obasanjo expressed concern over the current debates about restructuring the nation.

It was reported that the ex-Nigerian leader is worried that if the restructuring debate generates any further, it could lead to violence as groups move for self-governance.

In another report, it was reported that former African heads of states would be at the Olusegun Obasanjo presidential library international conference centre in Abeokuta, Ogun state, for the 83rd birthday of Obasanjo.
