SERAP to Senate - Drop bill seeking foreign education for repentant terrorists

- The bill seeking foreign education for repentant Boko Haram should be dropped, according to SERAP

- The NGO group was praised by Nigerians for standing for the truth

- Meanwhile, many Nigerians believe the bill to be a slap on victims of insurgency in the country

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on Senate President Ahmed Lawan to drop the bill seeking foreign education for repentant terrorists.

This was disclosed in a tweet by the NGO on its official Twitter handle.

"We’ve asked @DrAhmadLawan to drop the bill that would allow “repentant terrorists” access to UBEC & TETFund funds to enjoy foreign education. By calling Boko Haram members “ex-agitators”, the bill mocks victims & erodes justice. We’ll make sure it's never implemented," The tweet read.

According to the NGO, the bill mocks victims of Boko Haram insurgency and apart from this, it is also a slap on justice.

Meanwhile, Nigerians in their reactions have lauded the group for standing up for Nigerians. In reply to the group's tweer, many Nigerians commended them for standing for the truth all the time.

"@SERAPNigeria, you guys are doing a lot to amplify our voices and lead our long-overdue campaign for transparency, equity and justice in Nigeria and her polity. Your actions are rightly felt. Keep it up! Well done!" Gabriel Nwokocha wrote in his reaction.

Judith Saleh on his part added that: "This bill is aimed at spitting on the graves of innocent victims who were brutally murdered by these demons and our soldiers that died fighting this war."

Meanwhile, Gentle Fred believes Nigerians need to help themselves before getting help from God.

"I sometimes question my understanding of English because of the way our political 'RULERS' uses it in Nigeria. Are they ex-agitators or Terrorists? What are they agitating for exactly? God will help us when we ready to help ourselves. Simple!," he added.
