Arsenal have been knocked out of the Europa League in dramatic fashion after succumbing to a 2-1 defeat to Greek outfit Olympiacos.

In a game full of twists and turns, it was the last 10 minutes of extra time which sealed the fate of the tie as Olympiacos grabbed a dramatic winner just when Arsenal forward Pierre Emerick Aubameyang seemed to have grabbed a winner on aggregate.

The Gunners were underwhelming for large parts of the game despite having quite a frightening front-four consisting Mesut Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazzette and Nicholas Pepe.

And they were made to pay in the 53rd minute when Pape Abou Cissé opened the scoring after heading in unmarked from a corner.

Cisse’s header proved decisive as it levelled the tie at 1-1 on aggregate, forcing extra time.

Arteta made changes for extra time, with Gabriel Martinelli coming in for Lacazette and with a penalty shootout looming, up stepped Gunners talisman Aubameyang.

The Gabon goal-machine scored a spectacular overhead kick to take the aggregate scores to 2-1 in Arsenal’s favor and while the home side looked set for a place in the last 16, Olympiacos had other plans.

Once again, the Gunners were guilty of failing to quell an opposition cross as Youssef El-Arabi ghosted in at the back post to completely break the home side’s hearts with a devastating goal to level the aggregate scores once again.

Aubameyang had a chance to grab a dramatic winner at the very last minute but his volley went agonizingly wide.
