- A Nigerian writer has taken to social media to dish out some advice to Igbo couples

- Identified as Chinanza Ada Igbo, she warned against replacing wine with malt or juice at the traditional wedding

- According to her, it is completely wrong and damaging to throw the wine away as it carries blessings

When it comes to traditional weddings in Nigeria, every tribe has its customs and practices. For the Igbo people, wine carrying is an essential part of the wedding ceremony. The bride is giving a cup of wine to take to her groom after which it is prayed upon by her father.

However, not everyone partakes in this. Some people often throw the wine away after it is prayed upon and replace it with a drink of their choice. To these set of people, Nigerian writer, Chinanza Ada Igbo has a few words.

She noted that it is wrong for people to do this as the wine having being prayed upon by the father of the bride, holds blessings essential for the success of the marriage. She stated that replacing it with juice or malt will only destroy the marriage.

Of course, you destroyed the very marriage yourself that very day of your traditional marriage by pouring those decrees away, oh you think it's a mere word, it was a powerful declaration from a father whose daughter is entering a new home, he gives the daughter and husband words of blessings from the depth of his heart, that is why you both ought to drink it happily to show that you accept those blessings!"
