Obasanjo calls on Nigerians to always see themselves as agents of unity

Nigeria's former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has called for unity among Nigerians as the country navigates through its security challenges, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Legit.ng gathered that Obasanjo made the call in Abuja during the burial service of Jennifer Etuh, wife of the chairman, Fertiliser Producers and Suppliers Association of Nigeria (FEPSAN), Thomas Etuh.

The former president said the country would be better off if its citizens see themselves as agents of unity.

He said: “The bible says in all things give thanks. In the part of the country where I come from, culturally, we believe that anybody who dies no matter his or her age has automatically become the senior to those alive.

“As Thomas has said, here we are; I have seen people I will meet in the Mosque here and I have also seen people I will meet in the Church here and what can be unifying than this."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Obasanjo on Sunday, February 16, said that Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna was a success with the role he played in the national privatization programme between 1999 and 2003.

Obasanjo described El-Rufai as part of the reasons the privatization programme became a success while the latter took the seat as the first director-general of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (PBE).

Similarly, the former president said that he only got to the level he is in life because of God's mercies. Obasanjo while speaking at a thanksgiving service of the Christian Association of Nigeria on Thursday, January 2, said as a Christian, he will only work towards doing the right things in life.

In a related development, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said Muslims and Christians in Nigeria need to work in unity to promote peaceful coexistence in the country.

Osinbajo made the statement on Friday, February 14, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, when some clergymen paid him a visit.

The vice president noted that there was a need for the government to work with other stakeholders in promoting harmonious coexistence in Nigeria.
