Nikita Waligwa, popular African child actress, dies at 15

- Popular actress Nikita Waligwa has thrown her fans into mourning as she died after a battle with cancer

- While alive, the Ugandan teen actress starred alongside Lupita Nyong'o in the Disney film

Popular Ugandan teen actress Nikita Walingwa has been reported dead.

Nikita died after a failed battle with cancer, which she once reportedly treated in India.

The actress, it was learnt, starred in the 'Queen of Katwe' alongside Kenyan star Lupita Nyong'o passed on at the tender age of 15.

The late Nikita was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2016, according to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

When the ailment started, Ugandan doctors said they had no necessary equipment to help in her treatment.

She was then flown to India following the intervention of Mira Nair, the director of the movie, who helped in obtaining donations for her travel.

Throughout 2017, the young Nikita was said to have been cleared of the ailment, but in 2018, she reportedly developed another tumour.

The movie she took part in was based on the true story of a young chess player, Phiona Mutesi, who started chess at age 9 and went on to be a world star.

It starred Lupita Nyong'o as Phiona's mother and David Oyelowo as her chess teacher.

Nikita character was called Gloria and she was a friend to Phiona, Lupita's daughter in the movie.

Gloria would then help Phiona by explaining the rules of chess to her.

The late Nikita was a senior three student at Gayaza High School even at the time of her death.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng recently quoted Metro as reporting how a four-year-old girl born with Down's Syndrome became a model after being told that she would not lead a normal life.

The report said the girl identified as Clara was diagnosed with the condition 21 hours after she was born.

Her parents were also told that she would be overwhelmed by lifelong medical conditions including heart problems, Metro reports.
