el-Rufai: Buhari congratulates Kaduna governor as he turns 60

- By Sunday, February 16, Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna will be 60 years old

- President Muhammadu Buhari, celebrating the governor, has referred to him as a great leader

- The president said that el-Rufai's enviable leadership potentials were helped him to achieve victory in the 2015 presidential election

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a congratulatory message to Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna as he prepares to celebrate his 60th birthday on Sunday, February 16.

The messages were posted on Twitter on Saturday, February 15, through President Buhari's media aide, Garba Shehu.

The president commended el-Rufai for his insight and wisdom to lead people to achieve greatness at various levels, adding that the governor's efforts were instrumental to the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 presidential election.

In his message, President Buhari said that although the governor's entry into public service was accidental, his contributions so far to the growth of the nation have been well-thought-of and strategic.

Nigeria's president prayed for more good health and wisdom as he continues to lead the state to greater positive heights.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that el Rufai had said that around 10 people had shown interest to succeed him come 2023 after the expiration of his tenure.

He made this known just after he denied the rumour that he had handpicked one of those who were coveting the highest executive post.

The governor, during a phone-in programme on Friday night, January 10, said that only God gives power to whoever he chose.

El Rufai said that it was everybody’s constitutional right to aspire towards the post, it was quite early to start having that ambition, as he had just spent a year.

“Even though everyone has the right to aspire as long as he meets the constitutional requirements but it is to early to start aspiring for the plum office.

“We were given the mandate to administer the state for the next four years and we have not spent even one year and people have started coming out to aspire.

"To me, this is not only a distraction but a disservice to the people who voted us,” he said. The governor also said that he called for stakeholders meeting warned people who work with him to be careful as he will deal with whoever does not take their work seriously.
