- Odion Ighalo will have a successful spell with Man United according to Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu
- The 30-year-old is in line to make his anticipated debut against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
- And Kanu has suggested that the Nigerian striker will replace Romelu Lukaku who left for Inter Milan
Odion Ighalo has been defended by Super Eagles legend Nwankwo Kanu following his winter transfer move to Man United.
The former Arsenal striker believes his compatriot will have a successful six-month spell with the Old Trafford outfit.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been short of strikers in the past few months following injuries to Marcus Rashford and selling of Romelu Lukaku as well as Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan.
And Kanu has given his verdict on the 30-year-old star who moved from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.
“Yes he can replace him (Lukaku),” Kanu told Goal. “If you watch him play, you’d find out that he is strong and can score goals.
“What he needs is the service. In this team, I am sure his game will improve because the team has great players.
“Despite playing in the Chinese league, Ighalo is not a player you would look down on and say he is not a good player.
“I believe in him and I know he can deliver if given the chance. Bringing him to Old Trafford means that those in the club believe in his ability, and we have to respect that.
“I don’t think he will not disappoint because he will give them value for their money.”
Ighalo is hopeful to be named in Solskjaer's squad that will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge despite not traveling with the team on a training tour for the winter break.
The Red Devils who defeated the Blues 4-0 on Premier League opening day, desperately need a win to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Victor Osimhen has continued to make the headlines in the French Ligue 1 as Lille fell 2-1 to Marseille in a league match.
The Nigerian international drew a fine save from Steve Mandanda in goal with a brilliant curling effort from outside of the 18-yard area.
Legit.ng had also reported that Asisat Oshoala joined her Barcelona teammates on rampage as they thrashed Sporting Huelva 7-0 in a league match played at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
Jenni Hermoso and Oshoala both scored a brace while Caroline Hansen, Lieke Martens, and Alexia Putellas were also on the scoresheet.
