Nigeria's Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, on Thursday, February 13, assured Nigerians that the people employed to secure lives and property of citizens would be relieved of the jobs if they do not meet the target.
Daily Trust reports that Lawan said this at the plenary after the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance by Senator Kashim Shettima (Borno) calling for the establishment of Military formations in Auno following the recent attack on the community.
The Senate president said while it is important for the military to intensify their efforts in the fight against insurgency in the northeast, citizens must continue to be focused and united to deal with insecurity.
Lawan said: “In a time like this, it’s extremely essential that leaders come together regardless of their political platforms or beliefs."
He said the Federal Government must be alive to its responsibility of securing lives and property of Nigerian populace.
“If you employ someone, give them personal targets and if the targets are not met with no cogent reasons, he/she should go. When we hold people responsible, they’re likely to perform their job. We’re talking about the lives of the people that we represent," Lawan said.
He also called for adequate training for all personnel of the Nigerian Military, the Police and other security agencies in Nigeria.
The call by the centre is on the heels of growing killings in the state with the recent one in Auno community in the state.
