Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has made it clear that the club's chiefs could fire him if his wards should fail to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 encounter.

Currently on the Premier League standings, Manchester City are 22 points behind leaders Liverpool and the Reds have even been tipped to be crowned champions.

Manchester City are already in the final of the Carabao Cup and the fifth round of the FA Cup as the possibility of them retaining their Premier League title is not certain.

Since Pep Guardiola came to Manchester City in 2016, the former Barcelona gaffer has won the Premier League title twice, but has failed in Europe.

One of the reasons why Manchester City chiefs hired Pep Guardiola is experience in the Champions League having won the title twice with Barcelona.

But the Spaniard has not been able to replicate that success in England as Manchester City have only gotten to the quarterfinal under him.

Last season, expectation was high when Manchester City got to the quarterfinal of the Champions League, but they were sent out of the championship by fellow Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Tottenham on the other hand also defeated Ajax in the semifinal with Lucas Moura producing brilliant performance in the second leg where he netted an hat-trick before Spurs lost to Liverpool in the final.

Guaardiola has now explained that the expectation for him to win Champions League with Manchester City is so high for him and his players.

“I accept it. I want to win the Champions League, I dream and will enjoy the games against Real Madrid to see what I can do.

“If we don’t beat them, then the chairman will come, or the sporting director, and say ‘It’s not good enough, we want the Champions League, I’m going to sack you,''. Pep Guardiola told Football Daily.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Manchester City gaffer Pep Guardiola explained that his former club Barcelona will fight for survival when Lionel Messi leaves the Nou Camp.

Argentine superstar has never played for any other club except Barcelona where he has won all the trophies in football with only the FIFA World Cup missing in his cabinet.

The 32-year-old made it clear many times that he is happy playing for the Catalan giant and have no plan to leave the club where he made his name.
