Bandits attack Kaduna community, burn 16 family members to death

- Bandits have reportedly killed 16 members of the same family during an invasion on Bakali village in Fatika District, Giwa local government area of Kaduna state

- The bandits during the invasion were said to have set fire on many bags of grains, vehicles and motorcycles in the village

- Alhaji Sani Bakali, a member of the community, said the bandits who attacked the village were over 100

Bandits have reportedly burnt 16 members of the same family to death in Bakali village of Fatika District, Giwa local government area of Kaduna state.

Daily Trust reports that the family members were killed when the bandits invaded the community on Tuesday, February 11, around 4pm and set fire on many bags of grains, vehicles and motorcycles in the village.

Alhaji Sani Bakali, member of the community, Alhaji Sani Bakali told the newspaper that the bandits who attacked the village were over 100.

Channels TV, citing a community leader, stated that bandits locked up 16 members of the same family in a room and set fire on the house.

Meanwhile, it was tears galore as a seminarian at the Good Shepherd Catholic Major Seminary in Kaduna state, Michael Nnadi, was buried on Tuesday, February 11.

The Late Nnadi was kidnapped and eventually murdered by armed bandits in the northwestern state.

Friends, family, and colleagues cried uncontrollably as the body of the young seminarian was laid to rest at the premises of the school’s cemetery.

The Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah, in his sermon said: “Nigeria is at a point where we must call for a verdict.”

According to him, “Nigeria of today does not possess that set of goals or values for which any sane citizen is prepared to die for her.”

He accused President Muhammadu Buhari of bringing nepotism and clannishness into the military and the ancillary security agencies, adding that “the present administration is marked by supremacist and divisive policies that would push our country to the brink.

In another report, the leadership of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has condemned the rising insecurity across regions in the country especially the north.

Professor Ango Abdullahi, the chairman of the NEF said President Muhammadu Buhari as failed as a leader in the area of Nigeria's security.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting in Zaria, Kaduna state, Abdullahi said President Buhari appears helpless in finding solutions to insecurity as well as poverty in the country.

Still on security, Femi Gbajabimila, the speaker of the House of Representatives, has pleaded with the United States Government to assist Nigeria defeating Boko Haram insurgents and other security challenges in the country.

Gbajabimila made the plea when he met the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Leonard, at a function in Abuja, Daily Trust reports.

The lawmaker said Nigerians were worried over the lingering insecurity challenges in the country and that many in the country were looking up to the United States of America for assistance to tackle this challenge.
