The All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena, has hailed the Supreme Court on its judgement on the internal wranglings in the Bayelsa state chapter of the party.

The apex court had on Tuesday, February 11 affirmed Mr David Lyon as the valid Bayelsa state APC candidate.

A contestant in the party's primary election, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri had challenged Lyon's emergence as the APC candidate in the Bayelsa governorship election.

The Supreme Court, however, dismissed the case instituted by Lokpobiri, who is a former minister of state for agriculture.

Nabena said by confirming Lyon's legal status as APC valid candidate, the Supreme Court sided with Bayelsans.

The APC chieftain made the statement while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, February 11.

He described Lokpobiri's claims in the suit as baseless but noted that the former minister was within his legal rights to approach the courts.

His words: “The apex court in their ruling sided with Bayelsans. From the APC primaries to the governorship election, it was clear that Bayelsans knew who they wanted to govern them.

“We are now focussed on delivering our electoral promise to Bayelsans and bring true development which our dear state deserves.”

Lyon will be inaugurated on Friday, February 14 as the newly elected governor of the south-south state.

Nabena had earlier hailed an Appeal Court judgement reversing a Federal High Court ruling disqualifying the deputy-governorship-elect, Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo from participating in the Bayelsa state governorship election on Saturday, November 16.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, December 23 shortly after the judgement in Abuja, the Bayelsa-born APC chieftain thanked the people of Bayelsa state for their dogged and unflinching support for the party and its governorship and deputy governor-elects.
