- EFCC has reacted to an alleged trending tweet about a picture of it's holding center in Port-Harcourt
- A Twitter user had shared an image of a poor detention facility alleging it belonged to the EFCC
- The anti-graft agency in its reactions, however, said the image was fake and described it as a figment of the author's imagination
EFCC has reacted to a tweet from a Twitter user identified as @TheRealDayne which showed an alleged picture of a holding center belonging to the agency.
The Twitter user in a now-deleted tweet had shared a photo of an open dumping facility, surrounded by razor-wired walls, which is alleged to be EFCC’s holding cell at its Port Harcourt zonal office.
Tony Orilade, acting head, media, and publicity released a statement in reaction to the trending tweet.
Orilade explained that @TheRealDayne’s tweet is fake and the imagination of the author. He described it as a calculated attempt to smear the commission’s reputation.
The acting media head went on to boast that EFCC’s holding center has a high degree of decency and not the mischievous image that was circulated. Orilade noted that the Port-Harcourt detention facility is equipped with a medical center and detainees are fed three square meals daily from the commission’s canteen.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a former member of the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, disclosed that the EFCC detained him in an underground cell for 30 days on the orders of Ibrahim Magu, the chairman of the anti-graft agency.
Similarly, Sani has demanded N100million damages from the agency over his detention. Sani who was in the custody of the anti-graft commission said his continuous detention without trial is a gross violation of his fundamental rights.
The Kaduna ex-lawmaker has dragged the EFCC and one Alhaji Sani Dauda who accused him of extortion, to the Federal High Court, Abuja where a motion on the enforcement of his fundamental rights was heard on Monday, January 21.
