Joseph Shabalala, the man who brought us Ladysmith Black Mambazo, has died. The group's manager, Xolani Majozi, confirmed that the 78-year-old died on Tuesday morning, February 11.

According to Xolani, Joseph's wife, Thokozile, was with him during his last moments on earth.

The group has been informed and they are very sad. They are currently touring the US.

"Yes, it's true. Mr Shabalala passed on this morning. The group (Ladysmith Black Mambazo) is on tour in the US, but they have been informed and are devastated because the group is family."

Legit.ng gathered that Joseph's family is expected to release an official statement about his death later in the day.

It is not exactly clear yet what the cause of death is, but the musician was reportedly ill in his last days.

Joseph's health had been deteriorating over the past few years, which is why he retired from the group back in 2014.

At the start of the year, he was admitted to hospital for his bad health, and fans kept him in their prayers.

Since news broke of the musician's passing, fans have been in mourning.
