- Lionel Messi has now joined Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho with double figures this season
- The Barca captain also equaled Leipzig's Timo Werner hat-trick of assists following his display against Real Betis
- Messi has been involved in Barcelona's last 11 goals in their last four matches in all competitions
Lionel Messi produced a five-star performance in Barcelona's 3-2 comeback win over Real Betis at the weekend.
It was expected the Argentine should get on the scoresheet but he provided assists for all three goals equaling Dortmund's Jadon Sancho and RB Leipzig's Timo Werner.
La Blaugrana came from behind on two occasions before half time, canceling goals from Sergio Canales and Naby Fekhir.
Messi gave a pin-point cross to Frenkie de Jong and assisted Sergio Busquets' equalizer which made him the second player to reach double figures in goals and assists in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
The 32-year-old now has 14 goals and 11 assists similar to Sancho's 12 goals and 13 assists who became the highest scoring teenager in Bundesliga history.
Messi also matched Werner's record who also produced a hat-trick of assists this season after Clement Lenglet headed home the winner in the 72nd minute.
Werner also bagged a hat-trick of goals and assist when Leipzig demolished Mainz by 8-0 earlier in the season.
But Messi got his 35th career treble with Barcelona during the 5-2 spanking of Real Mallorca back in December.
Barca move within three points of La Liga leaders Real Madrid who swept aside Osasuna by 4-1 in an earlier fixture.
