The government of the United Kingdom over the weekend declared the deadly coronavirus a serious imminent threat to public health.

The BBC reports that UK's health secretary, Matta Hancock, said the country's government is putting out measures to fight the rising spread of the virus which broke out in Wuhan city of China and has since spread to some other countries including the United States of America and the UK.

Hancock said additional powers will be made available to keep affected individuals in a supported isolation system for their own safety.

Also, the health secretary had earlier announced that two hospitals - Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral and Kents Hill Park conference centre, in Milton Keynes - have both been mapped out as isolation facilities.

A spokesperson for the health department said the government of the UK is strengthening its regulations to keep infected individuals in supported isolation systems.

According to the spokesperson, individuals are kept in isolation should health professionals see them as a risk of spreading the disease or infecting members of the public.

He said: "This measure will rightly make it easier for health professionals to help keep people safe across the country."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the lawmaker representing Anambra South senatorial district, Ifeanyi Ubah, raised alarm over the illegal exportation of facial masks to China.

Senator Ubah said the illegal exportation of facial masks from Nigeria is currently booming as over 100 million face masks have been illegally exported to China since the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease.
