Service chiefs must be sacked - House of Reps insist

The House of Representatives has maintained its demand for the sack or resignation of the service chiefs over the insecurity in the country.
Benjamin Kalu, the spokesperson for the House in a report on Daly Trust dated February 10, told journalists in Abuja that the lower house has not backed down on its call for the removal of the security chiefs.

Kalu stated that the legislators are yet to rescind an earlier resolution calling for the removal of the service chiefs, noting that the resolution stands until a member calls for the resolution to be rescinded
“So, every resolution taken by the house remains as it is until somebody will raise by a way of motion and being to say, we want to rescind a particular resolution on the matter,” he said.
“If that is not done, you cannot accuse the house of caving in. Caving in to what? There is the only one way of caving in, by a way of motion, and we have not done that. So, until we do that, don’t accuse us of that”
Meanwhile, a former chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Ari Gwaska, has condemned the call for the sack of Nigeria's service chief over growing insecurity in various regions of the country especially the north.
Speaking after an all-inclusive stakeholders meeting on the state of security in the country, Gwaska who is the national chairman of the Pro-Nigeria Elders Council (PRONECO) said he believes President Muhammadu Buhari is following United States of America's (USA) lead on tenure elongation of the service chiefs to defeat terrorism.
The former FCC chairman said it is not entirely strange for heads of security architecture to remain in office longer than expected. Gwaska said the US and other top nations have adopted this strategy at different times to quench insurgency.
He also noted that it is unhealthy to change competent and trustworthy hands at a critical time as when there is an ongoing war against terrorism.
He recalled that in 2018, President Donald Trump extended the high year tenure for senior Air Force officers through technical sergeants beginning February 1, 2019.
