The governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson, on Friday, February 7, was adopted as an "illustrious Idoma son" by the Idoma area traditional council.
Legit.ng gathered that Dickson is to be conferred with one of the highest chieftaincy title, the Oyi'Ihotu K'Idoma (a cherished son of Idoma land), by the Och' Idoma, HRH, Agabadu, Elias Ikoyi Obekpa.
The award which is in recognition of the governor's friendship with Idoma people and contributions to the empowerment of Benue sons and daughters in his state will be conferred on Dickson on Saturday, February 8, at OchIdoma palace in Otukpa.
Some of the empowerment of Benue people by Governor Dickson listed include the appointment of Benue man and current lawmaker, representing Ado, Okpokwu, Ogbadibo Federal Representatives, Francis Ottah Agbo, as special adviser on media relations and later, chief press secretary.
Also, the governor appointed Steven Ekoja as his special assistant and Innocent Adaji as his chief driver while another Idoma man, John Adaji is his farm manager.
Some of the cooks in the governor's residence are of Idoma and Tiv extractions while a Benue Police officer, late Inspector Ameh Ogbeh was his escort commander among many others.
In a letter personally signed by the Och'Idoma the 4th in 2019, Governor Dickson is to be conferred with one of the highest traditional chieftaincy titles in his palace.
The Och'Idoma said the conferment of the title to Dickson is focused on further cementing the relationship that exists between the governor, the Izon ethnic group and Benue people.
The letter read in part: "On behalf of myself, my council and the entire Idoma kingdom, I wish to, genuinely, appreciate your commitment to a peaceful and united Nigeria and in particular, your friendly disposition towards my people, including the Idoma Community resident in Bayelsa state."
Dickson, who is also the chairman of the South South Governors Forum, has since accepted the offer and promised to personally be in Otukpo to accept the title.
The governor described the award of the title as an honour done him and the Izon nation.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Dickson had condemned the attack on former President Goodluck Jonathan's home in Otuoke, Bayelsa state.
The governor had allegedly believed that Jonathan worked against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ensure the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state's last governorship election.
