- Hon. Abdulmunin Jibrin has been speaking on life after politics as he settles into private life
- The former member of the House of Representatives spent 8 years plus in the green chambers
- Jibrin said he is ready to serve in whatever capacity he is called to serve
A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulmunin Jibrin has opened up on his plans after leaving politics.
Jibrin recently failed to return to the lower house after a rerun was ordered in his constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He lost his seat to his rival, Alhaji Ali Datti Yako, of the Peoples Democratic Party in the rerun election for the Kiru/ Bebeji federal constituency held on Saturday, January 25.
Speaking to journalists recently, Jibrin said he was leaving his political future in the hands of God, but will still be involved in active politics.
He stated that being in politics does not necessarily mean occupying an office.
His words: “The future looks very bright. And one has had a very interesting career in the House in the last 10 years.
“I’ve been a lawmaker holding two very sensitive positions in the House, chairing the Finance and Appropriations committees simultaneously, spending 10 years without being accused of stealing money that belongs to the National Assembly, without being associated with corruption and without being accused of being incompetent or lacking capacity.”
On whether there is plan to compensate him considering the role he played in the emergence of the present House leadership, Jibrin said: “I am not looking out for compensation but again I am not tired of serving the country in any capacity either in my private capacity or to be called upon again to provide services to the government.”
Jibrin recently shared a photo of himself and his son as he returned to his private business after the electoral defeat.
Many of his followers wished him well after on social media.
Adewole Adeniji wrote: That I guess explains your very simple and calm disposition even in the face of defeat, having a second address is key and that's what separates you from the desperate politicians.
Yemi Adepoju: You're a young and talented politician...many out there are looking up to you... Make money and never relent in what you enjoy doing best!
Luqman Iman: Please go back to the classroom. We need to tap from your experience. Looking forward to being a member of your faculty.
Mathias Egbo: This is exactly what we expected of our politicians, not to sacrifice all your entire life on politics. We will all continue to pray for the success of your business sir because you decided to define politics differently aside what some of our politicians currently practice.
Oluseun Badekale: I have said it one several occasion, you are highly respected. You ain't a professional politician. No professional politician have anything doing outside politics and they can kill to retain a position.
Jonah Joseph: I really like your spirit, sir. Let the politicians without a source of livelihood outside. Politics play do or die politics. But your type sees politics as service to humanity, not as a source of livelihood.
Recall that on Monday, January 27, Jibrin tweeted that he did not lose the election but was robbed by his political opponents in the state.
He emphasised that his mandate was stolen through the use of brutal force by the opposition.
