Governor Uzodinma approves N30,000 minimum wage for Imo workers

Barely twenty-four days after he was declared the authentic governor of Imo state by the Supreme Court, Hope Uzodinma has joined other state governors who approved the payment of N30,000 minimum wage for their workers.
Legit.ng reports that the federal government had in April 2019, signed the new minimum wage bill into law and ordered all the state governments of the federation to implement it without further delay.
The order did not go well with some governors who argued that they have little resources in their respective states but the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) tackled the governors, threatening a showdown with any state that fails to pay N30,000 minimum wage.
During the twilight of the year 2019, some state governors in the southwest, northwest, northeast, and south-south approved the payment for their workers.
Channels TV reports that Governor Uzodinma followed the suit on Thursday, February 6, as he approved the immediate implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage for the least paid workers in the state public service.
Oguwike Nwachuku, the chief press secretary and media adviser to Governor Uzodinma, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, February 6.
He explained that civil servants captured were those on the grade level 1 step 1.
“Consequential adjustments on other levels will be implemented as soon as the ongoing government-labour negotiations are concluded.
“It would be recalled that at a recent meeting Governor Uzodinma had with labour leaders in the state, he promised that he will pay the N30,000 minimum wage if all the negotiations with them are concluded,” Nwachuku said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Governor Uzodinma sent a warning message to the people protesting against his government.
It was reported that he said that his administration would deal with individuals and groups of persons sponsoring inciting protests in the state.
He said he would no longer tolerate any more protests designed to destabilise government activities and tamper with the peace of the state.
